We use an older v7.0.1 version of Websphere MQ in our environment for a very old legacy system. We have not updated to a newer version out of fear that it would break this critical system that is on the way out in the near future. We are needing push a Fix Pack to address a vulnerability and running into a snag due to the number of clients we have to deal with

We have PDQ Deploy that we can use for mass deployments/updates, etc and trying to find a way to see if this version of MQ has ANY way that we can silently deploy that Fix Pack it (cmd, powershell, exe, etc)?

small update here......i found i was able to push the fix pack silently using the method below that i found on another thread here:

webSphereMQMDV7.0.1.1EnUs.exe -s -a MQPLOG="C:\WMQBACKUP\WMQUPDATEINSTALL.log" MQPSILENT=1 MQPREBOOT=0 MQPINUSEOK=1

it says successful but the version of the installed app didnt change at all....anyone know a way i can validate that the FP worked?

Where are you looking? What command? What version of what app?

A Fixpac updates the F in VRMF.

So this is for IBM WebSphere MQ v7.0.1 client on Windows 10. We are needing to run the 7.0.1-WS-MQ-Windows-FP0014-EnUS. I was able to run it silently via the commands i listed above and it says it was successful via the WMQUPDATEINSTALL.log but the overall install version sticks at 7.0.1. I'm sure a FP doesnt nessesarily update the main install but just seeing how I can verify that it applied correctly as i dont use the app myself . Maybe can i verify the detail version of a specific .exe or something?

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> dspmqver Name: WebSphere MQ
Version: 7.0.1.14
CMVC level: p701-114-160429
BuildType: IKAP - (Production)

Add/Remove Version shows 7.0.1.0 still but the above looks like i'd be good?

Reboot that Windoze machine and check again.

By the way, MQ 7.0 is not supported on Windows 10

I get the fear of trying to upgrade, but you are already on a dark and scary ride if you are using software many years of of support with incompatible software versions being mixed on top of that.

cool yup i'll try that......are you saying add/remove SHOULD show 7.0.14 after that FP?

yup i was pretty much expecting the non supported deal.....this is running our old old billing system thats on the way out but not quite so they are terrified to change ANYTHING with it in fear it will anger it haha

do you know what the oldest Win10 compatible version that we could look at as an alternative? i would like to float that by the group

It might strike more terror into their hearts when they realise the app is using software that is no longer supported by the vendor. If there is a serious issue and a fix is not already available, there will be no recourse.

"Such is life" for those who choose to take that path. Ref https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Kelly , his famous last words.

ya know i'd love to agree with you there but in this particular instance this system is so old and i believe i was told if i was to update the client software they'd have to also update the server end. It being a legacy system that is on its last legs and very temper-mental , they are very cautious about changing ANYTHING. i definitely will pass this information along though

on the "patched" system i did reboot a few times but installed programs is still showing 7.0.1.0. but running that command suggested shows the new version so hoping that means we're patched?

Client and server do not have to be at the same version.

Where are you looking for installed programs? What does dspmqver indicate?

Just checking control panel \ add remove programs and shows 7.0.1.0

and dspmqver shows:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> dspmqver Name: WebSphere MQ
Version: 7.0.1.14
CMVC level: p701-114-160429
BuildType: IKAP - (Production)

interesting.....so even if we left the server w/ an old version we could install the current version on the client and all should be fine?
