Is it correct to say that stopping a listener will not cause any established channel connections to drop, but just prevent new ones on that port?

(MQ 7.1 on z/OS using a Group listener)

Yes, but strictly speaking, after a TCP socket connection has been established, the end points negotiate a separate port, and there is no further reference to the listener port. ie. Even blocking the port in a firewall will not affect established connections or the ability to stop them.
