There use to be a Supportpac and I believe it got put into the MQ product, the ability to read the MQ logs and rebuild/replay messages.

I can’t find the Supportpac or any documentation on it and I know it exists.

Thanks for helping us aged types!!!!

For the record, you do mean (based on where you've posted this) on a z/OS queue manager not a distributed one?

And are you sure you're not thinking of dmpmqmsg which was what they called qload when it moved into the base product in v8? Along with savemqgr?

(Though MQ z/OS had saveqmgr functionality through CSQUTIL before that. Like anyone defines queues except using JCL........)

This, as you're surely aware, doesn't read logs.

CSQJU004 is the supplied print log utility. Log replay takes place automatically at qmgr restart to ensure that the qmgr is brought to its last known consistent state.

Yeah, I knew that and suspect the OP does as well.

The ask seemed more to be something more manual, separate to the start up consistency check.

Unless you're proposing the OP print the logs through CSQJU004, reformat the output and replay it through CSQUTIL? Ingenious, but how would you identify given start and end points?

Hummmm.......................

And I'm a teenage millennial spring chicken.

Using my cranky old man voice, I point out that v8's dspmqmsg does work on z/OS.

I also wave my cane in the air and demand what the requirment to do such a darn fool crazy thing is.

It was some program that recreated messages from the logs (maybe elsewhere) that allowed you to replay them back....like for stress tests

Ugg. I’m still looking. I thought it was just recently added also and at one time it was a Supportpac.....NOT Q or QLOAD

I think its dmpmqlog but might have to use paul’s Version for a stress test type scenario ....I’m at a customer trying to get off the MF...Oh the Humanity...so they want to capture MQ work and ship it to those new fangled MQ’s on distributed so they can stress test.

While PUBSUB might be suggested, never liked hooking Prod to test not to mention the overhead of capturing data for this type of purpose.

There was Supportpac MO12 (Log Print Utility) which got rolled into the product in V6, and is called CSQ1LOGP.

The log print utility (CSQ1LOGP) on z/OS

I don't know how easy it is to use to replay messages from, but I think it might be what you are thinking of.

Cheers,
Morag

Darn...well darn memory has failed me. But that’s probably what I was thinking of. I will look at the EXTRACT function and see if that’s workable.
I do appreciate the reply’s as always here.

There is a log replay lab exercise here:
https://github.com/ibm-wsc/mq-wildfire-zosperf

Note that the log extract works by the pageset ID, so if you have multiple queues using persistent messages defined on the same pageset, the extract file will have to be 'culled' (sorted) for the queue you need restored.

Cool...I will definitely give that a try...when they get me a laptop, and access, and bla bla....onboarding never pleasant.

Thanks so much!
