Scenario

QM2 has 2 listeners (1489, 1490)
QM1 connect to QM2 using SDR channel on port (1489)
The channel is in RUNNING state.
Only the listener on QM2 (1489) is stopped. QM2 QM is still RUNNING state

The channel from QM1 to QM2 still RUNNING and able to send messages.

If the channel is stopped and restarted then only the channel goes into RETRY.

Question is - Can anyone tell why after stopping the listener the channel still keeps RUNNING and able to send messages.

A channel that is running is unaffected by the closing down of the Listener. If, however, that channel returns to a non-running state (e.g. due to disconnect interval being reached) then it will be unable to restart until the Listener is back up.

if the port is not RUNNING on QM2 and QM2 is on a different VM to QM1, also if
ps ef | grep lsr
is showing the port as not running..how does the channel from QM1 manage to get connected to QM2 …any idea?

As was said before, shutting down a listener will not affect any channels that are ALREADY running. You will only prevent further channels from starting up. Think of an MQ listener a little like the inetd process. If you shut down inetd (so that it stops listening on the various ports) you will not end any of running TCP servers.

Regards,
Paul.
