Other than with the appliance, is there any way to combine RDQM HA and DR? I would like to set up something resilient across two fairly close together datacenters (30 miles). this will be for approx 15 - 20 queue managers. I am also looking at Veritas, SRM, and Vmotion.

Wondering how others handle DR?

DR RDQM - it's in the Knowledge Centre...

Thanks, I saw that. It shows one node with a DR pair. I was looking more for info on how to pair a 2 or 3 node HA setup with RDQM at another site.

I don't know of any way to DR an RDQM set-up. Theoretically, if you have three data centres and your data centres are Metro-located, and the latency is within the limit stated, you could have an RDQM that is pretty much HA and DR, but it's not something I'd want to rely on.

Most DR scenarios posit an 'empty' queue manager and application-level reconciliation.

Currently RDQMs make you choose either HA or DR, but not both.

Currently.

It depends how critical the qmgrs are, and the DR time objectives for your business functions. We have 2 datacenters in the same city and use PowerHA and MSCS clusters, with servers split across the datacenters. RDQM and MIQM are not robust enough for our requirements.

Sometimes DR requirements stipulate the alternate location is so far away that you must use asynchronous solutions.

It's up the people wearing fancy suits and driving expensive cars to decide if an alternate site that close satisfies the company's DR requirements for protection from regional disasters.

If your DR location is so close that a solution based on synchronous replication works, your H.A. solution simply gets stretched between both sites and you accomplish H.A. and DR in one fell swoop.
