We are currently running IIB v9.0.0.8 on RedHat Linux x86 v6.8. We are planning to upgrade IIB to ACE v11. ACE has OS pre-requisite of RHEL v7.2.

What would be the best approach to perform this upgrade ?

A. Upgrade current RHEL from v6.8 to v7.2 and install ACE v11 on top of IIB v9 on the same servers ?

B. Build brand new RHEL v7.2 servers, install ACE v11 & configure Broker components on new servers and migrate code ?

C. Build brand new RHEL v7.2 servers, install ACE v11 & restore needed directories from old servers onto the new servers ?

Please let me know what would be the best approach for this upgrade or is there a better way that we are missing.

hi...I don't think there is a one size fits all approach when it comes to migration as it really depends on what you planning to achieve, some factors to consider are

- Have you evaluated whether the current hardware specs are good enough for v11 and future messaging capacity?

- If you decide to upgrade the broker on the same box what will be your rollback plan in case something major goes wrong during the cutover?

- Do you have any plans to address some of the technical debts with the interfaces, minor cleanup, remove obsolete artefacts etcs. If so it would make more sense to migrate the code first to v11.

- How about exploring the possibility of moving to a Cloud platform?

I've worked on couple of migration projects where we went with the 2nd option as it made more sense to review the whole estate, address the minor issues/cleanup where possible etc. It also helped us in investigating issues on both versions side by side while raising IBM PMRs.

So I guess it depends on the budget, scope etc...
