I have to integrate IIB 10 flows to Equation core banking system which is running in client environment in AS400. Client is not recommending MQ as a connectivity option. What are other integration options recommended in this case?

The client says "Don't use MQ".

If the client doesn't say "Use XYZ instead", then ask them why you can't use mQ?

Yes, I have to ask yet why not MQ in next meeting. He asked to suggest the approach, from his side he said Java library or custom IIB node that comes possibly with some support pac can be used, etc

Some support for *what*? CustomerProtocolXYZ? Or some standardized protocol like Kafka, SMTP, HTTP, AMQP, MQTT, File, TCP based, JMS, etc...
There's a whole range of *built in* Input and Output nodes for *lots* of things.

Ask for *exactly* what transport is needed.

Anything supported by IIB out of the box. Which is everything in common use.

If the vendor is suggesting something that requires a custom node to be written and/or an additional Java lib be included, then that's a warning flag.

I do know one team wanted to use something which sounded (to my Java-inept ears) like one Java class making an RPC call into another Java class, and that needed "open source but really robust" jar files to be added. They were unable to clearly articulate the advantage of this over a SOAP or a REST call except that "the developer did this at his last site".

My view (echoing that of my most worthy associate) is that if you can't communicate over a protocol supported by a built in node, you should very strongly question why you're using that protocol. As someone who's spent the majority of his career in the finance / banking arena, I would be surprised and slightly horrified if the "Equation core banking system" doesn't have support for more standard methods, even if it's running on AS/400.
