I couldn't access mqseries.net from work today. Some warning saying my company's content filters have blocked the site due to its "low reputation" rating.

mqseries.net might have a low reputation, but it does have a lot of street cred . . . .

I have a similar problem accessing the site for IBM MQ beta conference calls.

So I end up viewing the slides on my phone as I listen to the call.

Seems like we will soon have to go back to cabinets full of manuals. Company internet filters and actual working Admins/techs do not see the world in the same way.

Shudder. I remember the fleets of 40ft Containers leaving Ireland all carrying the VMS V5.0 Doc set. 22 manuals if I remember right.

I recall working for a while at a Bank where all the competitors sites were blocked. Until the department responsible for Competition (rates and products) simply stated that they could not do their job without being able to see what the other banks were offering.

Then there are the rules that ban certain combinations of letter. One site that was banned at one place I contracted at was www.westsussex.gov.uk. The admins (in the USA) decised that it was a porno site. It took months to get the 'jobsworths' to see sense.

Rules is rules is rules.

Time to setup a proxy to access this site.

You really don't want to live in Scunthorpe....for similar reasons (and probably other reasons as well)....

I've seen what they post there. Filth and depravity. I only keep going back to look to see if it's getting worse......

....but to be fair to the admins, they may have known my brother works for West Sussex and just used the combination of letters as an excuse.

He is. Older, contact admin and much, much more diabolical.

Scares the willies out of me.

I'd say submit a letter to the mgr of the internet team explaining that mqseries.net is a vital resource for your daily activities.

And then bribe the network admins with a bottle of whiskey.

I did open a ticket to get the site unblocked. When I came in this morning they asked why did I open the ticket, that site's not blocked. OK, let me show you I say.

And it works no problem.

"No one" did "anything". It just started working on its own over the weekend.

Who knows, maybe over the weekend we had a few good posts and the site's "reputation" crept back up over some mystery threshold.

About right for network people. No one changed anything so the sender channel suddenly & unexpectedly in retry one morning with "connection refused" or "destination host unreachable" must be a software bug.

In my experience, about 3 days later and after you've exhausted every option short of taking their children hostage, they admit to "one highly specific change that couldn't be causing that problem" which, when reversed, causes the channel to start.

More likely, you opened the ticket, the network admins saw the mistake they'd made, fixed it, and then pretended they didn't "do" anything...
