What I am thinking about here is being able to run a diff against a file produced by dmpmqcfg....
Doesn't matter if the commented out headers are a different...

You mean a 1-line/2-line output.

I'm not actually planning on playing around with results data. At least not for this feature.

Are you sure about that

I was taught that words will never hurt you in elementary school. I agree it's not that easy sometimes... But the only way Vitor's slaps will be anything other than words is if you are already unfortunate enough to work with him in person...

Let me add a slight comment/amendment to this.

I misread this. It's talking about formatting an existing MQSC file to match the 1-line output from dmpmqcfg, in order to do a diff.

I'll look at this. But it's not strictly necessary, as you could import the dmpmqcfg output into MQExplorer, format that, and then do the diff.

Alternately, you could do the format on the source in MQExplorer, export it do a replace of "+/n/s+" or "-/n" with "", and then do the diff.

But again, I'll look into it.

Nice to see you're looking into 1 line as well.
I was just thinking about the plain output (1 attribute per line)...

Having the ability to easily diff the output before applying it may help a lot.
I was thinking here about an output from dmpmqcfg that does not use all attributes .i.e. only the ones different from the default appear.

This should closely match any kind of script that you are going to apply...
Hence the possibility for a diff...

Thanks

80 columns is kind of nice for UNIX too, as its the screen width for many basic terminal types. However, there are many attributes that can be more than 80 chars. TOPICSTR is an extreme example, 10240.

Right - but + and - can occur at any point in the MQSC string, and are interpreted that way.

That is, you can break an MQSC line in the middle of the value of TOPICSTR without affecting how that value is processed.
