Hi All,
I have a requirement to install MQ client V7.5/8.0 on 2000 Linux servers, instead can we install MQ client on a NFS(Network file System) and create a soft link on all the 2000 Linux servers and try connecting to MQ serves on Unix servers ? I had read this somewhere and tried the same but, it is failing to connect. could you please guide me on this? |

Failing to connect is a very vague concept. What is the exact error?
What command did you use. Did you set the environment correctly before attempting the connect. Did you make any installation a primary one?

Here is the problem.
1. When we install MQ Client, we are able to route the install to NFS path like /mydrive/opt/mqm, but /var/mqm we are unable to install on to NFS.
2. Also, as the install is done local, it creates Links, but in NFS it does not work.
3. Also, doing a “setmqenv –m qmgr …..” does not work. |

"Unable to install" - do you get error messages? Explosions? Boils & Sores?

"Does not work" - see my comments above.

So, this is an NFS installation problem, and not a fail to connect to qmgr problem? Or, are you seeing an mq ReasonCode or AMQnnnnn error of some kind?

More details to the issue which we see.
We tried to install MQ Client 8 to a NFS location. With the custom location being set to /mydrive/opt/mqm, the Install of the product went thru fine.
However the data section did not point to NFS.
How do we route to NFS /mydrive/var/mqm during install?
Now once this is installed, we would like to softlink the path to other Linux servers, this way it prevents us from installing the client on each machine.
We tried moving /var/mqm to /mydrive/var/mqm and then softlink on the servers as
ln -s /mydrive/opt/mqm opt/mqm
ln -s /mydrive/var/mqm /var/mqm
Set the path etc.... the next command "dspmqver" does not work.
If anybody has done a similar solution, please share your experience or any documentation. |

And you are surprised that the setmqenv -m command fails?

What is a data section? What instructions are you following?
How do you know that the next command "dspmqver" does not work? No output? Some output? An error message?
You do know that we can't see over your shoulder to observe what you are typing and the output you see on your monitor, don't you?
