Hi all;
According to the help written for the CAST function in ESQL in the following URL
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKM8N_8.0.0/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/ak05610_.htm
The CCSID could be used for the source or target string. Could you please explain when would it be used for the source string and when for the target?

It would be used for the source if you want to transform a BLOB to character and for the target if you want to transform a character to BLOB...

All character data in the message tree is represented in UTF-16. So if you want read or write character data then you need to specify its CCSID.

I can supply a link to good article about Unicode / character sets / encodings if you like.
