Hi - I just installed MQ-LIGHT, and searching around the directory tree, I found ... ... MQTT !!!

>>> c:\mq-light\runtime\mqxr\bin\runMQXRService.bat

that is, as all you know, the "MQTT start listener service".

So, my question is ... what does MQTT do in the MQ-LIGHT directories ?

Sebastian.

They're separate things.

They use separate APIs and separate protocols on the wire.

So you can't write an MQTT application and connect it to an MQLight endpoint, and vice versa.

MQLight supports AMQP endpoints and MQ endpoints, at least afaik.

And the performance characteristics and client install requirements are different.

separate products, that is what I understand

but my question then becomes : how is it that I did install MQlight and I got some MQTT BATs and Listeners, etc ?
Anyway, I prefer "mosquitto" ... jejeje

MQLight supports AMQP - I did understand that, yes

MQLight supports MQ endpoints - I dont catch that. Is this true for version 1.01 or is this for the future for version 2 ?

Thanks, Jeff. Sebastian.

MQLight is supposed to be transparent to migrating to real MQ. Which means that your app can talk to MQ. Maybe that's not the same as supporting MQ endpoints, but it's what I meant when I said that.

I assume the reason you got the MQXR stuff was so you could use MQTT clients to talk to your MQ Light. I didn't realize it came with MQLight.

MQlight to MQ connection - I read it will exist, but not now, afaics (as far as I can see)

mqtt stuff - the problem is that they can NOT talk to each other (afaik), so finding the product is a surprise.

lets wait for verion 1.2 or 2.1 ... jejeje

Have a nice week. Sebastian.

Well, again, I'm guessing that the MQTT service that comes with MQLight will talk to the MQLight pieces.

Maybe it doesn't, maybe it only talks MQTT between MQTT clients.

I would say they are not capable of speaking between themselves.
The line protocol is absolutely diferent.
Lets wait and see.

Yes, I agree the line/wire protocol is entirely different. The MQXR service that comes with MQ does a local bridge between MQTT and MQ. So I'm expecting, or suggesting, or guessing, that the MQXR service that comes with MQLight does the same thing for MQLight.

MQ Light does not support connections from MQTT clients. Any scripts/libraries/listeners installed with MQ Light that refer to MQXR are where existing components have been re-used to provide support for the AMQP 1.0-based MQ Light API.

The WebSphere MQ V8.0 announce letter made a statement of direction about support for the MQ Light API in MQ in a future release. No further details about that statement of direction are available yet.
