Hi,
In our organization we are currently using WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance XI50 and it is planned to upgrade to WebSphere DataPower Service Gateway XG45. Could anybody guide what are the steps to followed while doing up-gradation/migration. Is it good to change from Integration Appliance to Service gateway ? what are the pro's and con's for the same. Any URL which talks about migration would be helpful.

Thanks in Advance!!

Hello Vinay,

You will want to be very careful during this migration, but the XG45 does not have all the features the XI50 has. If you are doing anything in regards to non-xml data performing more than just a pass-thru, you can experience some compatibility issues.

As far as the Migration Process, I'll post some high level directions below.

1. Stand up new Infrastructure
2. Copy Domains over to Dev Environment
3. Validate functionality in dev
4. Update VIPS to point to new Dev Environment
5. Migrate code from new dev environment to next environment.
6. Validate functionality in pre prod environment
7. Update pre-prod vip to point to the new ip.
8. Migrate pre-prod code to prod.
9. Functionally validate prod code.
10.Update VIPS

the Functional validation is key here, make sure you validate all aspects of the service before updating the vips to shoot live traffic to it.

thanks,

Doyle
