Hi,

I have a setup which uses MQ series and MQSI using linear log files.
I have looked in the Amqerr##.log files to find out which logs are still required for media recovery and apparently the first file is still required.

I then tried to use the rcdmqimg command to take an image of the qmanager. The only way I could get this command to work was to stop the MQSI broker as I was getting a message along the lines of 'Queue manger is in use'.

My questions are:
1- Do I have to physically record an image of the qmanager for the log files to be updated with enough info to perform media recovery or will it happen automatically after a certain time/event?

2- If I do have to record an image of the qmanager do I have to stop the MQSI broker to do this?

Thanks in advance

Stewart

Hi,

- Yes, you have to use rcdmqimg or shutdown and restart your queue manager to put your logs in sync with the status of your queue manager.

The current state of queues and logs can become inconsistent if you don't regularly shutdown and restart your queue manager.

Shutting-down the queue manager makes sure that MQSeries checkpoints (points when logs are put in sync with queue manager status) are generated.

- Yes, you probably have to stop MQSI as well as stopping channels before recording images.
