Did you reboot before applying the fixpack?

1. Does that file exist? 32 == sharing violation, and it would appear that someone else has the file locked.

2. Does it get very far in the install before this happens, and is this the first time anything is copied into that directory in the log

3. Search from the BOTTOM of the csd log file backwards for '=====' to get the beginning of the last install attempt (as they concatenate) and then search from there forwards for '***' - is that the first instance of an issue?

4. If you get a 2nd attempt does it show the same failure with the same file?

Hey!
I came across the same problem with MQ 7.0.1.8 fixpack installation on Windows 7. I tried many times without any success.
So I looked at the way it works: installer copies file into CSD.TMP and then renames it into some meaningfull name. So the question was what prevented it from renaming? Of course, it was some other process accessing the same file. Why any process would access this temporary file?
Scanning! I had avp.exe (Kaspersky antivirus) installed on my PC. So I managed to disable it (another challenge) after that fixpack was installed successfully.
Damned windows, kaspersky and IBM - I lost the whole working day!

Do you have a log from these failures? Any chance you could either post the point in the log where the error occurs (search for *** from the beginning of that install attempt, bearing in mind the file is updated for each run attempt) or put it somewhere I could take a look.

I'm interested to see what the failure was, and whether we could put in a small retry.

Note...

My understanding is if the rename fails, then it is set up as a rename post-reboot, so also interested in why that bit wasnt working

Jason,

My last log is successfull so I can't give you those you are interested. I remeber having errors with different paths (at least 3) while having a couple of dozens of run attempts.
The failures were ***Can't open <some path in backup folder>/CSD.TMP

The problem occured during backup phase and installer did not attemt to reboot, just fail.

(I was wandering how any sensible person could come to such a backup procedure. How can a developer not to program for reattempt!? What a perception it all makes...)

I cant answer the first bit, because its been this way too long, but almost certainly the reason it doesnt just retry is most error scenarios just configure it as a post-reboot rename instead so I could understand the mentality of saying dont bother retrying (not defending it though!).

Shame - do you wipe the log between runs then?

Do you remember if it was (32) on the line as well?

(Note I can only find one problem reported with that error string in over the last 5 years, assuming my search was working, so that specific error is uncommon or at least not reported...)

I'll take a look anyway and see whats going on at that point

Sorry, all the log history is still there, so I can send you.

And this is the second case actually as I am not the person who started the topic - I came here by the search with the same problem. How many people did not leave a message on the problem you never know.
