=================================

SYSTEM ENGINEERING CONSULTANT (WMQ ARCHITECTURE)

The System Engineering Consultant is a resource that plans and documents technical solutions. The System Engineering Consultant is responsible for planning technical solutions and providing technical leaderships to projects and will serve as a technical expert for Retail Solutions, Corporate Solutions, and other groups in system/network design and integration with specific emphasis on WebSphere MQ/Messaging and related technologies. They own the collection of requirements from a technical perspective, and design a solution from a collection of available technologies and products. This is a senior position that requires technical excellence and deep knowledge of WebSphere MQ, as well as broad knowledge of other related technology. This particular position is focused on both infrastructure (the resources that provide the functionality that applications and solutions run on and use) and applications. The System Engineering Consultant must have leadership and communication skills beyond the average technical resource, because they need to present, defend, and educate other roles. This individual has a strong responsibility to select technologies, set standards, and see that they are enforced. The person who fills this role must be able to address and advise senior management effectively. The person who fills this role must be able to lead a team of less senior resources to the successful completion of complex technical projects with little management direction or supervision. The candidate must be able to multitask and prioritize tasks without assistance. The individual will participate in the development of staff through mentoring System Engineers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum of a 4 year degree in Information Systems or Computer Science.
2. 10 years+ experience in IT working with Message Oriented Middleware products and file transfer solutions.
3. 3 years+ experience working as an IT Architect designing solutions.
4. Role-based Certification (Open Group IT Architect) or Product Certification (WebSphere MQ).
5. 5-10 years or more experience with IBM Websphere MQ.
6. 3-5 years experience leading technical teams of 5 to 15 people toward successful project completion.
7. 5+ years experience writing and reviewing complex technical documents, specifications, and requirements.
8. 3+ years experience making technical design recommendations.
9. Must have strong architecture and design methodology background and 5+ years experience working in a challenging environment with the technical architecture of a large enterprise.
10. Must be able to support COBOL, JCL, and Java Development teams on multiple heterogeneous platforms.
11. Must be able to work with teams of people of vastly different skill and experience levels.
12. Strong verbal and written skills, and be able to lead presentations and learning sessions.
13. Knowledge of Project Management.
14. Expert level knowledge of Visio and other architect level tools.

With respect to MQ/Messaging experience, the candidate should have design experience with:

• Clustering
• High Availability
• Multiple Instance Queue Managers
• Client Connections
• MQ Objects
• Testing
• Security
• Capacity Planning and Performance Tuning
• Monitoring and Management
• Operations
• Backup and Recovery
• Message Headers
• Access Policies
• Security (Channel and User)
• Character Sets and Decoding

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or Equivalent experience
• Preference will be for candidates with retail, finance or supply chain experience.
• Experience in Project Planning and Project Management.

Additional notes about the WMQ Architect position: This person will be one of the top technical resources at Lowe's, working on very large enterprise scale projects. There is a strong management team in place with this group, and the MQ Architect will be working closely with Senior managers here.

The need here is for someone who can be proactive in researching new products and strategies, and who can be heavily involved in road mapping and shaping our strategic vision. Ideally we want to find a senior resource who stays up to date with new trends and technology in Messaging architecture, has been involved in governance and best practices, and will continue to do that for Lowe's.

Reading the post tells me where it is (Charlotte), and I can deduce that z/OS is one of the platforms, it's pretty much a cert that Unix and Windows are in there somewhere!
