Hi everyone,

our unix team backups MQ servers. After looking at the mqm directory from the backup I only see a file named "active" but no "active" directory with active log files. Why? Is it impossible to backup those files? Are they locked by MQ?

Why is it necessary to backup "active" files when we use linear logging? What is stored in there? Only transactions? Are they needed for restoring persistent messages? In my opinion messages are stored in queue files, or am I wrong?

When I record mq objects with rcdmqimg and the queue manager collapses and I only have the access to archived active logs (archived by the logmanager support pac) then how do I restore persistent messages which were sent 5 seconds ago?

Cheers

I suggest that you read THIS very carefully, including parent topics, then review the questions you have asked...

Yes, thank you, I guess.

Let us assume that there is no backup of the active log files, needed for queue manager restart. The active log files are damaged, then there is no way to restart the queue manager, right?

If at restart the qmgr requires log segments, AND the required log segments are not available, the restart fails.
