Hi All,

What's the difference between a transaction coordinator and a transaction manager ?

I don't know if this a valid question , but i keep reading these two terms.

If they are different things, What are the products in Websphere stack that can do these two different jobs?

IMHU a transaction coordinator is a "specialist" with the only task to coordinate units of work between software pieces, which itself are not able to coordinate this with multiple partners. e.g. RRS on z/OS can be used to coordinate MQSeries and DB2.

Transaktion manager are subsystems that are able to run transactions, like IMS and CICS (on the mainframe). these both are also able to work as coordinators for units of work.

That's my understanding too, Mr Butcher. BTW, X/Open XA is a common method for a transaction coordinator (aka global transaction manager) to interwork with MQ (a local resource manager). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X/Open_XA .

So does this mean that Transaction manager and Transaction coordinator are the same?
