Returning to our non-interactive Challenge question way for May, will try to revive the Interactive model for June.

Challenge Question:
There is a requirement to process data in a “batch mode” using Message Broker. Let’s say you are getting a file (contains financial data) from Application A in Format X (fixed length record) and you need to transform that file into a different format, Format Y (fixed length record) before sending it to Application B. Assume that you are using Message Broker ver 6.0.

How would you design your application (message flows) to transform such files. How would you handle parsing errors in your message flows and how would you monitor your message flows in a batch environment?

There is a requirement to trigger downstream process/jobs once your transformation is complete. The downstream process is not MQ aware. The solution must use best practices (error handling, notification, etc).

Answers can be posted on this forum/thread or sent via email to challengemay08@cressida.info for those prefering to keep their replies discreet until the winner has been announced in early June.

... Few questions :

How about licensing issues ? do we have budget ?

How big is the file size ?

Do we have any critical non functional reqt to be followed ?

Do you need just high level design or exact configuration details for flow ?

How much is the load ?

The budget for purchasing Message Broker software has been approved by the management. So I'm expecting the solution to be implemented using Message Broker as it provides Transformation capability.

The file size can be as large as 1GB.

What do you mean by critical non-functional requirement? please give example.

I am just looking for a high-level design. If you think you can explain better by providing nodes used in the message flow, that will work too.

There are roughly 100 interfaces that needs to be processed throughout the day. Please note that these interfaces have SLAs.

.

Can you explain the requirements of the downstream process. You mnetioned these are not mqaware right? what are its capabilities/requirements?

One of the function of the downstream process would be to take the output of the Message Broker (transformed File) and FTP it to the target system or generate some kind of report. You are correct, the downstream process is not MQaware.
