I'm going to be in a meeting where one of the topics of discussion
is including a standard company header in the first X amount of bytes in a
MQ message. The purpose of this header is to pass info that the MQMD lacks
yet that we feel we need. I know from reading the listserver that this is
generally considered a good idea, but can anyone out there give me some
examples? I'm curious as to what type of info we should be passing.

Any data that you pass in the MQSeries message body is completly at your discertion. From a technical perspective, there is nothing to prevent you from placing whatever data you feel appropriate at the start of the message. I suggest that you fix the format early on and include both a 4 character signature and a version integer in the first 8 bytes (as IBM does with its pre-defined headers). This allows both immediate detection of the header as well as the ability for the header to change in later revisions. In addition, you can design and implement a data conversion exit that "knows" how to convert your data from one format to another (e.g. character conversion and big/little endian conversion)
