I am a newbie to mqsi development and installed DB2 and MQSI components on a NT server to start my development.

I have databases installed for MRM, Configuration Repository and the broker. All the services for configuration and the broker start up without any failure or error message. When I go to the control center and try to check out the broker I dont see any broker at all.

One more question I had was should the broker and the queue manager be in the same machine? I would like to know if the broker can access a remote queue manager.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Suresh,

Once you create a broker using mqsicreatebroker command on NT, you must create a broker reference in the Configuration Manger.

To do this,
1. Goto topology view of Control Center.
2. Checkout topology.
3. right click on topology and select 'create broker' (this will bring up another dialog box).
4. Enter the name of the broker and queue manager name in this dialog box. Make sure you type the same names used in mqsicreatebroker command.
5. Checkin the topology.
6. Do a complete deploy of the topology.
7. goto operations view and select refresh. Now you should see your broker here.

Now you can start using your broker by assigning message flows to default execution groups.

Warning: For some reasons if you want to delete the broker, make sure you FIRST remove the reference for the broker from configuration manager.

For more information please read Installation Guide and Administration Guide books.

Your broker and configuration manager can reside on two seperate machines.

Kiran,

Thanks for your reply.

This is what my problem is, when I right click on the topology view of the control center nothing is comming up (neither the create, check out ....). If I right click I dont see any menu/options etc..

The other question was can the Broker be created based on a remote queue manager.

Please let me know what the problem could be.

Suresh,

If I understood it correctly, you are doing following ..

You clicked on topology tab of control center. In Topology view, you will see two views, on left view (Domain Hierarchy) view, you should see "Topology" name with a small icon. When you right click on this (Topology name or icon) another menu should pop-up which will allow you to create broker.

After doing this if you don't get the menu then probably there is something wrong with your installation.

The MQSeries queue manager must be installed on every system on which you install the broker, so you can not create a broker (or any component) on a remote queue manager.

Others, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, when I right click on the topology icon there is no create /add option.

But on the control center there is a topology option, If I drill down there I see create but both the broker and collective options are disabled.

I'm assumming you're logging on as a user that's a member of the appropriate MQSI groups? If not, you'll not be able to access certain functionality in Control Center.

ahhhh ... you must have proper authority to do this! Make sure you are a member of mqbrops group on your machine. Is this a standalone machine?
If you don't have restrictions on this machine, i would recommend you to be a member of all mq* groups. This way you will not have these kind of problems again.
I would recommend you to read Administration Guide (section: Setting up security) for more information on this.

I logged in as mqsi user and was able to create queue manager, configuration manager and broker and for the same user create and add are disabled in topology.

What mqsi groups are required in order to create and checkout a broker in the topology view?

thanks

You should be a part of 'mqbrops' group.

I assigned all the mqsi groups to the mqsi user and now I am able to create and deploy the broker.

Thanks to all.

make sure you change the password for mqsi ... it is published and very well known ... better yet, create your own custom mqsi user based on the attributes that user mqsi has ... ditto for user mqm and db2mqsi and
