MQe V2.0 in generall can run on any platform where a JVM V1.1 or later is available. The read me first manual says that iSeries is indirectly supported in MQe V2.0.

What that means is that you can install the Java version of MQe on iSeries, and IBM will support and investigate problems only if you can replicate the problem on one of their supported platforms.

Hi,

Can someone tell me how i can install the Server Supportpac on an iSeries... I don't have exprience on iSeries . I first downloaded the supportspacs and i have to 2 files:

Cross-platform installation .jar file --> setup.jar (16.5MB)
Generic UNIX specific installation executable ---> setupUnix.sh (16.3MB)

i tried the java -jar setup.jar -console on the QSHELL but it wants to start the GUI... I tried the the same thing with -silent and it does not work

maybe someone will come along who is an iSeries guru. If it were me, I'd find someone in the shop who knows iSeries.

Sorry guys, I am not an iSeries guru either. I would recommend getting someone in your shop who is an iseries guru to assist you in running java applications.

A little late, I know, but we are running MQe on iSeries if you still have any questions.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Actually your reply is right on time. Next week i will start installing MQe on iSeries. Can you give me the guidelines to install MQe and configure it as well on iSeries. Let me know if you have example i could run to start

1) I guess i could use MQe_Explorer on Windows to see my Mqe queues created on AS400 right?

Thanks

Are you setting up MQe on iSeries as the gateway?

And yes, you will need to install MQe on a Windows machine if you wish to use the GUI (MQe Explorer) to administer the MQe queue manager. You just create a queue manager on your windows machine (you can call it ADMIN or something) whose sole purpose it is to administer the iSeries queue manager. Then connect it to the gateway.

Let me know your architecture and I'll see if I can drum up some info for you.

Steve

Re: MQe samples,
(1) the following link has the MQe Info Centre and takes you through creating a basic application.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iwedhelp/v6r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.mqe.doc/ovr50050.html

(2) When you install MQe, there are some samples located in
..\MQe\Java\examples\application\*.java

Hi Steve/Yatamal

Just want to validate the installation steps first:

1) Installing MQe on iSeries is only a directory with MQe_Directory/Java?
2) I will look at the exemple.. But i need to set up a Bridge on iSeries

3) Here's my scenario --> Windows XP Laptop with MQe, then MQe Bridge on Iseries and WMQ Server on a different Windows box. So the only part i have not done yet is seting up a Brige on a AS400 platform. Any recommandation?

Thanks

Yes, you basically just FTP the contents of the Java directory from within the generic unix folder from the media.

If you are using MQe_Script (from the server supportpac) then I can provide you instructions on setting up the bridge.

I would ask, however - why would you choose iSeries as your gateway if in the end you are connecting to a Windows server? Why not just just install the gateway where the qmgr is?

ie. Why complicate your life?

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

You are right I changed my configuration this morning... The MQ Queue Manager is on iSeries as well that's why i want my MQeBridge installed on iSeries.

1) The MQe_Script is a Supportpac i guess
2) What is the best way to install it
3) That way you can provide me with the way to setup my bridge

Thanks for your help
