I am trying to install MQ server 5.1 on my home windows 2000 server, Install process works fine, when I try to use MQFirst to define QM object , It gives me an error saying that DHCP server is running and QM cannot be defined.
Does the 2000 server needs to have static IP addresses?

At this point I am not planning for any connectivity, intention is to learn about MQ installation and configuration, I have prior experience using MQ on s/390 , not with windows.

Thanks for the help.

Not sure what MQFirst is. I am suspecting that it is some sample program. You do not need a static IP unless you plan to form incoming channel definitions as the IP or host name must be known to the server. Otherwise your queue manager should be fine.

Hi,
the MQ first steps application that comes with MQ requires a static IP address to setup all the sample MQ objects, so you can't use that.
But MQ will run just fine without that, it is basically just an installation verification goodie IBM provides. You just have to create your queue managers yourself by using the crtmqm command or the MQSeries Explorer GUI.
Hope that helps,
Stefan
