Everything that is officially posted about the Certification Tests is here:
http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/index.shtml

We cannot and will not post sample questions.

We cannot and will not post questions from the actual test.

We cannot and will not answer questions directly from the sample test.

We cannot and will not answer questions directly from the actual test.

Please don't try to "disguise" sample questions. Even if you "fool" us, it won't help you any, and it won't help us either. If you don't understand the question well enough to know how to find the answer, you probably won't understand the answer.

There is no one book or manual to study for the tests. You should be familiar with all of them.

The tests test your knowledge and understanding of MQ. If you work with the product daily, if you can figure most problems out on your own, you will be OK. If you are new to MQ, it is doubtful you will past the tests simply by studying manuals, unless you have a photographic memory.

The actual questions you get are a random sampling from a much larger pool of questions. This means you will probably not get the same questions if you take the test twice. It also means you may get a lot of clustering questions, or very few. You may get a lot of z/OS questions, or very few. You never know what you will get exactly.

The test is pass / fail in regards to getting your certification.

You can take the test as many times as you want.

The tests are usually given for free at the IBM Tech Conferance once a year. Otherwise, expect to pay about $110, give or take a few depending on exactly which one you take.

Certifications do not expire.

Some Hiring Managers think the Certifications are absolutly necessary for a position. Others think they are useless.

Also, after discussing this with someone else. The more times you take it the harder the questions seem to get. So it is worth your sanity to pass it on the first try!!

I just saw an article in the Certification Today journal at:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/

on how questions are written. The link is in the upper right.

Actually if a new version of the product is released then your certification may not be considered valid

eg certified on 5.2 may not be 100% certification on 5.3 (this has been my experience) now it is a matter of finding time to retake mine

As for the managers yes I agree it just depends on the person I suppose but be warned if you put yu are certified on a cv/resume and yu are infact not yu may get into trouble or even sued for misrepresentation

How does the IBM sample test compare to the actual test in terms of the difficulty of questions? Once we take a sample test, could we expect questions of higher/lower level of difficulty in the actual test?

If you get questions you know, you will think the questions were easy.
If you get questions that get into areas that you are not familiar with, you will think the questions were difficult.

You may get stuck with a bunch of questions on z/OS or iSeries. Some people might walk out cursing, as they never worked with z/OS. The next guy that happens to get that mix will breeze thru it, because they were born on the mainframe. Or they may get clustering questions, and themselves be stumped. Or not.

But overall, I thought the sample tests were a good representation of how "difficult" the questions were. Obviously the real test has many more questions, so many more areas are questioned.

Just saw this regarding WebSphere User Groups and free testing:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/news/20050331a.shtml

I imagine there are people out there that are members of some of these user groups.

I got an email about the new "Certification Today" at:

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/

It is located on the right side of the page and has information on how passing scores are set.
