Ive setup a new installation to run on Microsoft Clustering Service. Therefore there is a virtual IP address now that my customers connect to. How do I force my sender channels to use this vip to connect to our customers receiver channels. I have no choice to do this as there all setup to use that IP, not the new local IP of the servers.

Ive tried using the option for "Local Communication Address" but it doesnt seem to work or help?

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not quite clear on what you are trying to do. In an MSCS setup, each node has its own IP address (well, I think they also have a private one, but stick to the basics). You also need set up a shared IP address for MQ to use - This is what I think you have done.

I dont understand quite how the receivers are expecting a specific ip addess of the remote end, but ignoring that you are in trouble. Only one node can have the original IP address, the other would be different, so when you swap nodes it wont work.

Why dont you just make the shared ip address, the original address, and give the nodes new addresses?

noc,

A site I work with has a setup of MSCS going to a remote host with another QMGR.

The sender channels on the MSCS will use the IP <not the VIP> of that machine. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way to make MQ use the VIPA when sending from MSCS.

One thing that comes to mind that possible may work is a NAT translation. Then of course you'd have to get the networking guys involved which is always a treat!!!

QMA is in the MSCS, and it can be reached with VIP#1, which is shared between Node1 and Node2. Whichever Node QMA is activily running on, an outside QM (QMX) just needs to specify VIP#1 in the conname of their SNDR channel.

For QMA's SNDR channel going back out to QMX, the conname in the SNDR channel definition is whatever IP address is assigned to the server QMX lives on.; it has nothing to do with the VIP#1.

Am I understanding your question correctly?
