I have an application which receives xml(text)data just fine but it also have to receive binary data.

before doing anything with the received data if have to find out if the data is text or stream binary.

-How can I find out that the received data is xml or binary stream ?

If the sending side does its' job properly, then you can look at the "format" field of the Message Descriptor and see if it is MQSTRING or MQNONE (for example). If not, you'll have to use the "isprint()" function, as MQ does't care what it's carrying, text or binary
