I have installed MQ Series server and client on two different machines on my LAN. I ran the runmqsc app and defined a queue and channel. When trying to execute amqsputc on the client, I get an error with Reason Code 2035 MQRC_NOT_AUTHORIZED. The Event Viewer Warning on the server indicates "Authorization failed because the SID for entity 'administrato' cannot be obtained. The Object Authority manager was unable to obtain a SID for the specified entity."

Does MQ use the windows authenticiation somehow? I am assuming that 'administrato' is a truncated user name 'administrator' as this is a fresh "out of the box" install and I have not configured anything directly dealing with administrator.

Any help is much appreciated.

You should be specifying a channel name that your are trying to connect thru. it should be of the type SVRCONN. On that channel, there is a field called MCAUserIdentifier. If you specify a valid user in this field that is in the mqm group, any client trying to connect thru this channel will get pass the security.
The other option is to add the userid of any user you expect to connect thru this channel to the mqm group and leave the MCAuserIdentifier field blank. While this helps keep out unwanted people, it is an administrative pain every time you have a new valid client.

Thanks for the quick response. I am VERY new to MQ, so bear with me. I have defined a channel of type svrconn-CHLTYPE(SVRCONN). How do I specify a valid user in the MCAUserIdentifier field that is in the mqm group? Thanks!

Tia,
I'll assume you are on the machine that has the queue manager you are working on and you have the MQExplorer tool.

Start Menu, IBM MQSeries, MQExplorer. Then expand the tree till you see the queue manager you want to work on. Expand the advanced folder and open the channels folders. Find the SRVRCONN channel and right click on it to bring up properties. Click on the MCA tab and fill in the Identifier field with a user value that is the mqm group.

To get a user value in the mqm group...Start Menu, Programs, Administrative tools, Use Manager. The mqm group is created when you install MQ. Click on the group to see a list of the valid values that u can use in MCAUserIdentifier field.
