Hi,

Anyone using the slash character in queue or channel names?

I'm thinking of using it to separate two parts of a name, as a higher level separator than dot and underline(i.e, 'Q1.FIRST_NAME/Q2.SECOND_NAME').

Support pack MD01, "MQSeries Standards and Convensions" actually recommends this for channel names.

I noticed that RUNMQSC on NT and Unix, as well as the operator command interface on OS/390, accept queue names that contain slashes without quotes. Is this also acceptable on other monitoring tools? I would hate having to enter quotes whenever I key in a queue name.

As taken from the MQSeries Application Programming Reference ...

This is the local name of the object as defined on the queue manager identified by
ObjectQMgrName . The name can contain the following characters:
o Uppercase alphabetic characters (A through Z)
o Lowercase alphabetic characters (a through z)
o Numeric digits (0 through 9)
o Period (.), forward slash (/), underscore (_), percent (%)

I went as far as reading the docs myself, I needed people to share their experience.

BTW, Contrary to the standard literature, IBM's support pack, "Standards and Convensions", recommends against using the percent sign in object names.
