I remember reading somewhere how db2 agents were used by MQSI (one per execution group plus 1 if it used the MRM). I can't remember the document or the exact details. Can anyone help?

Also, is anyone experiencing problems on AIX with MQSI obtaining db2 connections to the broker database even though the number of agent processes is significantly less than the setting for MAX_APPLS defined for the database?

Also, Question 2.13 of the IH03 Support Pac addresses this issue and the solution to the maxappls of DB2 on AIX by installing TCP/IP Loopback. We had this problem and the TCP loopback solved this issue for us.

Thanks for the pointers.

We've just implemented the loopback technique and it has cured our problem. It appears that there is a limit of 10 db connections which is imposed by the JDK (as the DataFlowEngine processes seem to use some Java components) - this loopback workaround relieves this limit.

We came across this problem on a system which was not heavily loaded or overly complex so it would seem that having to implement the loopback technique is practically mandatory for all installations. Its certainly worthy of a stronger mention in the manuals rather than being buried away in a support pac!
