Folks,
Would there be any interest if IBM produced MQExplorer that ran on platforms beyond NT/2000? For example:

o Windows 95/98/ME/XP
o AIX, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX
o others ...

In addition, what functions would you be of interest to see included in a graphical environment that MQExplorer doesn't currently perform?

Well, I know that my firm would be greatly interested in MQ Explorer for Solaris, as we have quite a few people interacting with MQ on these systems so everyone has to be trained on how to interact with "runmqsc" and other command line tools. And personally, I would like to see it for Linux because I think MQSeries usage under Linux is going to continue to grow... Just my $.02

As an MQSeries novice, I depend on Explorer to do quite a bit. It would be very helpful if it existed for other platforms

OS/390 aka Z/OS support would be most welcome also.

All the UNIX platforms plus OS/390, please! By the end of the month would be fine.....

I would like to see a 'refreshment interval' or similar so I don't have to keep hitting the refresh button. I would also like to see my view preference (select columns...) retained - for example I like to see current depth as the second column but I have to choose this every time I fire up explorer.

Customers often ask me if they have to pay for a full server license if all they want to do is run the explorer interface to manage a remote queue manager.

To date, I think the answer is yes but I would like to see the explorer as separately installable and free much like the clients are.

As for making it available on other platforms, I would prefer to manage all other systems from one NT explorer. This would be more viable if it were free.

However, it would be nice if it could be made more powerful for remote queue managers. To be able to stop/start, look at error logs etc. would make it more of a systems management tool.

Cheers,
Tony.

Yes, we need a proper GUI interface on all platforms. The problem is that people used to UNIX tend to accept appalling hard to use interfaces as being normal.

A really good browser interface would seem the easiest way to build a cross-platform admin interface.

Yes, a similar product for other platforms would be great. I like the idea of access all platforms form a single NT Explorer ....

Folks,
Thanks for all the great responses. This was originally a leading question. I have something that is pretty stable now and will eventually be looking for beta testers. First I need to get more approvals to release on a beta programme. Watch this space.
