Hi!

I'm a total newcomer to MQSeries world. I've been given ip address of mqseries server and names (3) of queues to use. (Is this enough information?)

I've installed mqseries client and try to use queues through COM interface. Where should I put these info, ip address and queue names. How to open connection to MQ?

Thanks!

Before delving into the COM interface to MQSeries, it is vital (opinion) that you first understand how both MQSeries Clients work and also read the MQ Programming Guide (and have access to the MQ Programming Reference).

If you think of MQSeries as a generic API for working with queues then the COM interface is simply another flavor of calling the API. It has the same semantics as C, C++, COBOL etc etc. In order to get the most bang for your buck, you should really review the programming guide in depth. Once you know generic programming of MQ, you will see how the COM methods and properties map to the exact same MQ functions described in the programming guide and reference.

The MQ Client manual will explain how to connect a client application to the queue manager ... this includes knowledge of what to do with IP address, ports, queue manager names and channel names.

Could you point to any particular article, web site or a help file coming with the client?

IBM has a pretty extensive, if somewhat scattered, web site for MQSeries. Here are two links to MQ documentation, one in PDF and one in HTML.

http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/library/manuals/index.htm

http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/library/mqpdfs.html

This is the MQSeries Family home page:

Yep, scattered indeed. I've found that site, but I've actually found nothing useful. Or I just can't find what I'm looking for. I really don't have time to paddle through all those books...

What is the book where I will found info on
- how to configure client machine
- how to establish a connection to MQ server (which is somewhere, I don't have access to it)?
I think these are enough, if the IBM supplied "hello world" apps work after these steps.

Hi,
don't know why you couldn't find 'anything' on the IBM website, I think it's pretty well organized; have seen worse! Try this one: http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/library/manualsa/manuals/crosslatest.html

Your best bet for what you are trying to do, given you have no MQ knowledge, is to look at the 'MQSeries Clients' manual.
For the latest version of the MQ client code for your platform, goto http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/txppacs/txpm1.html#clients

Good luck (you might need it ),
Stefan
