| Cluster as of 'day 1'? |

We are implementing a fairly simple MQ environment involving just 2 platforms - OS/390 and Sun Solaris. There is a fair chance that this may grow into a much more complex environment.
Would it be better to implement clustering 'day 1', or can this wait until the environment justifies it?
Along the same lines, we may want to utilize MQSI at some point. Should we plan to install it initially or add it as needed? |

My recommendation is not to implement clustering as of day 1. Clustering can easily be added in later when the need arises, e.g.:
- highly complex network which much intercommunication required
- load balancing
- high availability
I suggest you start out with standard sender/receiver channels and XMITQs. If you need clustering at some point in the future then replace the sdr/rcvr channels with cluster sdr/rcvr channels and remove the remote queues and xmitqs as necessary.
As I have said in many clustering postings in the past, use clustering with caution, and only when you really need it. When you do decide you REALLY need clustering, allow plenty of time for experimentation in a test environment. |

As far as the MQSI question, I don't see any point installing it early if you have nothing for it to do. However, you should plan your system with where you are going to put MQSI in the future in mind. Since any of our 5 platforms (40 QMGRS) might use it, we stuck it on our Hub in our Hub-n-Spoke architecture.
