This is a slightly left field query.
We are looking at a tool called zVDT to clone z/OS LPARs to run on a Linux on Z as a way to create test LPARs that dont incur any software licence or MIPS costs.
https://www.ibm.com/products/virtual-dev-and-test-zos
We have some external applications that connect to MQ on z/OS using a specific MQ Cluster name.
But when we clone the LPAR, the MQ Cluster will have the same name. We can probably change the source applications to point to a different MQ cluster but we don't want to have to build the entire MQ Cluster on the new LPAR. Can the MQ Cluster name on the new host be renamed or can we do something like backup all the attributes, delete the cluster name, create a new one and retore? |

Although it is a little bit more complicated for channels, shouldn't changing all cluster names (cluster, clusternl) on all MQ objects do the trick?
For cluster channels you'd have to remember to use the preferred sequence to change any attributes. I'm sure you'll find it somewhere in the documentation...
Now if you're running into Uniform clusters, there is a little more work involved as you'd also have to look at the .ini and .mqsc files loaded by the qmgr at startup...
Hope it helps _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

You don't connect to clusters - which makes me think that actually this is asking about QSGs |

MQ Cluster Name is not a config option when an app connects to MQ.
Do they have their own queue manager that is in the cluster? (This is not a good idea from a reliability / security point of view) _________________ Glenn |
