HI ,
Is there any recommendation from IBM regarding the min space to be allocated for /var/mqm/log

We have 20 gb allocated to the active log dir .Unix team wants to remove 3 GB and allocate to diff file system.
I was told that 20gb is recommended by IBM for /var/mqm/log.
I wanted to check if this is true, dont find anything related to that in Google.

Also
Unix team will delete the filesystem and recreated with 17 gb.
From MQ side if we
stop the qmgr
take backup of the active logs
will that be fine to restart the qmgr or am i missing any other steps here.

Disk is cheap. If they need to shorten /var/mqm/log you have other more important troubles...

Please refer to official IBM-supplied recommended method to calculate log file size here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ibm-mq/9.1?topic=lost-calculating-size-log
with FJ's comment - if you need to reclaim 3g of disk space, your organization has other and more pressing issues.

What is the max disk space that you actually need for MQ logs?
Are you using circular or linear logs?
Are you doing linear log clean up?

I have calculated the log file size .It is 480 MB
10 Primary
20 sec
logfiles pages :4096
30*4096*4096 =480 mb.

HI,
The actual disk space the dir is currently consuming is hardly 20-30 % of the allocated one ,did not cross 10 GB from long time.

We are using Linear logging and yes clean up process is in place.
I wanted to know if there is any recommendation from IBM regarding the minimum space required for active dir.
so that i can show this as an evidence to not release the 3GB space.

How would IBM know the appropriate (minimum, average, maximum) amount of log disk space for your unique application environment?

From https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ibm-mq/9.1?topic=csl-how-large-should-i-make-my-active-log is this:
Quote:
The log should be large enough to cope with your longest running transaction running when the queue manager is writing the maximum amount of data per second to disk.

Not sure why you want to even engage in this argument. Disk space and toilet paper have (at least) one thing in common: better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
