I have now retired from IBM, so any future posts on MQ forums by me will be independent of IBM.

I've spent the last quarter of a century trying to enhance the MQ distributed code base, the majority of that effort in the core of the queuing engine.
In that time I've seen that engine grow from a 100 msg/sec capability to over 1,000,000 msg/sec (albeit rather helped along the way by Moore's law), and queue capacities grow from MB's to TB's.
Hopefully, the increasingly distributed architectures that are likely to suit cloud deployments should help MQ remain vital for many years to come.

After almost 40 years behind a desk I now hope to spend much more time outdoors, however I have two other objectives that I hoped I might combine in some way:
1. to contribute to some good causes.
2. to keep intellectually active.

To that end, if anyone was aware of any potential opportunity to use my MQ internals knowledge to raise a little money for charity I'd very much like to hear from you.

Best wishes
Andy Hickson.

Hi Andy,

Let us be the first to congratulate you on finally breaking free from the confines of your desk. We know you will be sorely missed and we hope that you don't stray too far from the MQ community regardless of how attractive that golf course looks. We would both like to take the opportunity to thank you for all the help, advice, knowledge and guidance you've given us over these many years. There is no doubt that MQ would not be the product it is without your considerable input and dedication.

It is a shame we can't come to your leaving drinks but if you ever decide to travel down as far as New Zealand then we'd be happy to buy you a few beers,

Best wishes for your retirement,

Regards,

Paul & Morag.

Andy,

Thank you for keeping me in a job all these past 20 years!

As with Morag and Paul, should you ever find yourself in the top of the East Anglian bit of the country, I owe you too.
