We have a MQSeries client (V5) on NT 4 connecting to a MQSeries server on OS/390 (MQ 2.1) via TCP/IP. A network trace shows small packets (about 500 bytes) being sent every 0.1 second to the mainframe. This overhead is rather high.
Can anyone suggest what these packets are for (they are certainly not the MQI requests which are far less frequent) and how we can reduce the frequency of them?
Is this a heartbeat? What options are available to tune this?

Can you verify that the packets are intended for an MQ component on the mainframe? Does the packet sniffer show source IP, destination IP and destination Port? Until we know who is generating them and why, I don't think we can offer advice on how to reduce their frequency.
