Hi All,

I'm currently working in the middleware domain with a couple of years of experience.

the tools I know/use is IIB v10 and MQ 9.

if i want to continue in the middleware domain, what new skills/re skills should I acquire?

please drop some suggestions to upskill/learning paths needed to stay competitive in the upcoming challenges.

Your question is extremely general. But how about obtaining some MQ/IIB certifications ? you didn't state that you have them.

Otherwise alternate messaging products such as Kafka, RabittMQ, Qpid. It appears that they are more and more asked for in the market.

Cheers,
Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,

Certification is in my to-do list.
Thanks for the suggestions, seems like learning other messaging tools is the best way to keep up.

Thnx.

I can do Development in IIB and a fair knowledge of IIB admin and MQ administration.

But I'm excited to learn what could be the other middleware developer/consultants(Mid-Level 4-5 yrs of exp) profile would look like?

What do they learn/play with other than these tools? or they use any other tools/technologies that align with these.

How about learning some MQ API programming. Understanding how your developers interact with MQ will likely make you a more empathetic administrator.

Also, some administration interfaces into MQ, it helps to understand the MQ API deeply, for example Activity Trace, and Accounting and Statistics.

Cheers,

I'd consider finding out about Kafka, which is becoming a Big Thing and fits well into an messaging background.

You should also extend your administration skills into the messaging & integration options offered by the major cloud providers. Both Azure and AWS are popular choices for "cloud burst" messaging architectures.

My 2 cents, other opinions are equally valid and may be better.

I'd also suggest becoming more familiar with admin of the various platform o/s' where MQ and related products run. Problem determination and performance tuning activities usually involve the underlying o/s platform and hardware configuration.
