We recently moved from V6 MQ to V9.1 MQ servers. Most application clients are still using MQ V5.3, V6 or V7.5 client libraries and use CHAR wildcards. To mitigate change, without having to redo all application architecture, we decided that we would run on V9.1 with CHAR wildcards. This has worked out fine. Most applications have a destination class of PROVIDED, as they specify their subscription queue and the wildcard format stays as CHAR.

However, there is a problem child, which runs on a JBOSS application server using the MQ Resource adapter. These subscriptions come over as managed and a wild card of TOPIC. Hence, incompatible with our CHAR based topics and they receive no messages.

I'm not sure what is driving the creation of the managed subscription, the application specifies a BrokerSubQ specific to the application, but yet they get created as managed. Is this a MQ Resources Adapter issue? As long as these are managed, the wildcard will be TOPIC. We have tried to change that in the Activation spec, with no luck.

So two Questions:

- What could be driving the creation of these subscriptions as managed?
- Is there a way to force wildcard CHAR for them?

Hmm,

- MQv7.5 is out of support for about 1 and 1/2 year

- MQv6 is out of support for about 7 years

- MQv5.3 is out of support for almost 12 years

- combinations of 5.3, 6, 7.5 and 9.1 have never been supported

You should asap replace the clients 5.3, 6 and 7.5 by newer versions (8 or 9). This is - when you have Java apps - just a replacement of the libraries.

According to your questions:

- Of what version are the JBOSS client libraries?
- How is the client channel (SVRCONN) defined?

Have you thought about changing the default topic's set up to char wildcard?
