Hello,

SVN had its keywords which you could bake into the barfile. It doesn't seem that git has that functionality. Anyone solved this? We would like to see in our runtime who deployed what and from which branch. Yes, I know there a thousand other ways to do this, but if somoene can confirm that this work is doomed to fail then that would be enough.

Best

I can confirm that to the best of my knowledge git lacks an equivalent of the svn keywords you speak of. If someone knows better, I'd be very interested to find that out!

You'll need to use one of the thousand other ways to obtain the information and bake it into the barfile (which is of course a broker function independent of any source control technology)

For the record, we moved away from doing this when we moved to Git from SVN and now obtain the information you're talking about from our deployment control system (Jenkins et al).

But I would be interested in having my Git knowledge increased if someone does know this........?

Yeah our Jenkins can give us this info as well but it would be sweet to inject this into the bar file. I am sure there is some bad script someone has written to get it to work.

I expect most of you have found these already, but...
https://git.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/GitFaq#Does_Git_have_keyword_expansion.3F

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11534655/git-keyword-substitution-like-those-in-subversion

However, you may be better off using the Git commit id (or a tag that you have attached to it) as your keyword in the BAR file, rather than a sequence number allocated by the version control system.
