One tool I would highly recommend if you are working with APIs or HTTP based flows is postman.
The free version has the ability write tests (in Javascript). You can write tests to specify the status code, headers, response data and other information and run them and see them fail. Once you had your code and things work, they will go green.
If you then use this together with a command line tool like Newman, you can use Jenkins to write these tests in an automatic manner. We use this for APIs/HTTP based flows.
