Seriously, I'd hate you to double count me.

We have cookie based duplication protection enabled (not IP based so that we can speak to multiple people in same org) but otherwise duplication handling will be manual. Thanks for the heads up.

But one could respond to the poll from different pcs, with the same or different responses - such as took place in the run up to a recent US national election, couldn't one?

Yes, its possible. We're looking into alternative ways to prevent duplication e.g. by asking for full name and making it mandatory (far less likely to have two people of the same name, the same role working in the same organisation).

When the survey is disseminated through additional channels such as the MQ beta programme we will ensure we warn participants accordingly. There will always be a risk that we will receive duplicate responses (as with all surveys)- it is something that's very hard to avoid. Ultimately, however, the goal of this survey is to get a general sense of what is happening in the MQ community.

It appears to be accurate...

https://www.ibm.com/contact/employees/servlets/lookup

shows a result for Sasha Williamson. And i can otherwise confirm that she works in Design for the Hybrid Cloud team.

This means that she is not strongly, nor even necessarily at all, associated with the beta program. Although I suspect that the beta program may already have a lot of the information she's hoping to find from this survey....

I can confirm I am an official employee of IBM Thank you for providing verification.

I do work with the MQ beta program team on occasion, however, I am part of an MQ subdivision product team (which I can't provide details of at this point in time) and as such we have separate goals.

If you have any additional questions about the research we are conducting please reach out on sasha.williamson@ibm.com and I will answer them if appropriate.

Meanwhile, for new view forum viewers, please take a look a IBM MQ customer survey and respond if interested: http://sgiz.mobi/s3/98cda764d272

Many thanks!

Great! Give my regrets, again, to Pete Murphy for having to drop out.

And .. just because you have separate goals, doesn't mean you can't use the same data.

And now I'll stop telling you how to do your job...

Couldn't agree more!

We're also hoping to broaden the sample by reaching out on this channel, i.e. speak to customers who may not be on the beta programme.

10. Please tell us about the messaging third party tooling you use.

- QLoad

- Tivoli
- RFH Util
- Mule
- Oracle

I'm insulted by question # 10 and I'm pretty sure that most MQ vendors will be insulted by it too. Why were all MQ solution vendors excluded from the list but MQGem had 4 products included?

Come on, MQ Visual Edit is the #1 commercial stand-alone message editing tool and it does not make the list. The free RFHUtil is only message editing tool with higher numbers (and that is because it is free).

Since when is MQ Explorer, MQSC and MQ Console considered 'messaging third party tooling'. I thought they were created by IBM? Also, 'Tivoli' is a product brand from IBM.

And what in the world is 'Queue manager freeware'?

The least you could have done is reviewed the 2 product lists that I created a long time ago: IBM MQ Free / Shareware Tools and IBM MQ Commercial Tools.

Having a stated goal of 'who is interacting with MQ and what their responsibilities are' but focusing primarily on monitoring is odd. In most companies, there will be 1 MQAdmin to every 5-10 MQ/JMS developers and at other companies it could be 25-30 to 1. And of course there at QA Testers. Developers and testers have a totally different tool set to get their job done.
i.e. Developers & testers need to:
- Create good and bad request data
- Create good and bad reply data
- Run volume tests
- Load/save messages and/or message sets
- Replay saved messages
- Gather statistics on message flow rate
- etc.

Food for thought.

Ok. I'm done ranting.

Yes I spotted that and commented on it earlier.

Perhaps it just means our SEO is good!

[insert name of favourite deity here] forbid that such a large organisation, with teams working on/with the same product, would be synergistic in their goals

I think this is just the result of being relatively unfamiliar with the product.

MQ explorer is not third-party of course and technically neither is Tivoli.

MO71 might refer to the support pac version.

I can guess what lies behind the survey and I don't think it's too much to worry about. Most of these tools work in similar ways and I think IBM just want to ensure people can use whatever they normally use.

Thanks for your comments, Roger. Your feedback is appreciated.

I'm going to change the question now to make it open ended with the hope that it doesn't offend anyone else or be misconstrued.

Have a great day.

Not offended, but I am survey averse. Or, maybe more skeptical than averse.

Quite some time ago, I was asked (directed) by a client to complete a 3rd-party survey regarding tools and methods the organization used to defend itself, and which were being considered, but not yet not in place at the organization.

My response was something like "Really!? You intend to disclose to your competitors, hackers, and unknown others, what your known and unsecured attack vectors are?"

So, my first impression of the OP was 'who are competitors in the mq space?'

Thought for food.
