We have a scenario where it is reported that our sender channel is sending messages slowly to mainframe. and when I checked the status of Sender Channel, it is showing SubState which is changing from "MQGET" to blank.

I am wondering what is the reason of blank substate in MQ channel?

More important, why is it sending messages slowly?
What is the size of the messages?
What is the bandwidth available?
What is the current / max queue depth of the destination?
Is there any queue on the destination queue manager that is full?
What is the network latency?

Have fun

Hi fjb_saper

1. message size is really small, 1 KB
2. we usually never have any message pile up in our XMIT Q, but we saw around 100-200 messages and count was gradually increasing.
3. MaxDepth of XMITQ is 15,000
4. On Destination side , the queue depth was 0 and the destination application were able to pick messages in less than 1 second.
5. We suspect network latency, but we have no way to find out from MQ logs whether and how much network latency.
6. Also, MQ doesn't report/log every message In TIME and OUT Time, so we are also not able to figure out how much is the delay.

What tool are you using to look at the SUBSTATE ? SUBSTATE is an integer attribute so 'blank' is not really an option. Whatever you are using to retrieve the SUBSTATE is then interpreting it and putting out blank. Perhaps it just doesn't recognise the value. Is it possible there is a later version you could use, or use a different tool ?

Cheers,
Paul.
