Hi,

I am looking to migrate MQ v8 clustered queue managers from windows to linux environment. Purpose of this task is to gain better performance results. I have searched but did not find any help in this regards, mainly migration is mentioned in terms of upgrading MQ version on same platform. So please share your thoughts and useful links to achieve this task.

install MQv8 on a Linux Server
Rebuild one of the Full Repositories on Linux using the original script(s) used to build it on Windows
Demote the Windows copy and Promote the Linux copy as described in the documentation
    Repeat with the other FR
    Repeat for each PR

Thanks Vitor, Exerk.

Exerk: If I get your point correctly you mean that new cluster member in linux should have a different name than that in windows. But if we completely build linux queue managers separately and when all setup is complete and we stop windows system and switch to linux then I think we can keep the same queue manager names.

You can't keep the same names.

Clusters use the QM ID. These will be different.

You will need to add the linux qmgrs to the cluster, and then remove the windows qmgrs from the cluster. This means unshare *all* queues/etc on those qmgrs from the cluster, refresh the cluster and then remove the qmgr from the cluster. Then you can stop and delete the windows qmgrs.

You could *attempt* to back up the windows qmgrs and then restore them on linux. But I'm reasonably sure that doesn't work.

Only if you completely build the new cluster out in isolation from the old one, then switch all the applications using the old cluster over to Linux, then spend a few happy hours or days trying to deal with all the messages left unprocessed in the old cluster, that one application that didn't switch over properly, the configuration or sizing issue you didn't notice with the Linux queue managers until you put them under production load, etc, etc, etc.

Much better to do as I suggested and migrate the cluster over one queue manager at a time, which as my most worthy associates points out requires different names.

Many best practice queue manager naming conventions would force different queue manager names anyway.

I don't think it does either.
