Dear all,
I hope you are having a good time.

I work as MQ administrator , mainly with MQ7.
I have googled a lot & gone through study material provided by IBM redbook, but still not able to understand what exactly Stream does in MQ Pub/sub.
As Stream its MQ6 concept & I don't have MQ6 installed with me to do some hands on, to check how exacly these Stream works.

As per the study material Stream in MQ 6 are mapped to the TOPIC object in MQ7. But What is the significance of Stream then ?
Is this stream related to publication only & not with Subscription ?
DOes it means that MQ6 version program must use Stream to publish messages as it can't directly publish on the TOPIC ?
If we have to use IBM MB flow for Pub/Sub , then we must use Stream ?
I have MQ7 MQ Explorer installed on my PC. I can publish on any dummy topic using Test Publication option. Does it use STREAM or Directly put on topic ?

These kind of questions irritates me more as , don't have clear understanding of the STREAMS.

It will be great if anyone help me to understand this concept in more simpler way ....

As Stream its MQ6 concept why do you care? Especially as:

So you can just use topics.

It has no significance.

It means that any program using MQ6 needs to be recompiled to use a later version, or taken out and shot to put it out of its misery.

No.

Stream is also a specific type of message. As such, it only has value to application teams.

And isn't really recommended, unless the code on both sides does it "by default". Well formed content in an MQ datagram should meet almost any, or every, business requirement and technical requirement. Unless the application teams are lazy, bored, or incompetent.

Thanks Both.

Actually it getting quite consfusing , the more I was trying to understandabout streams and its functionlites. But as you mentioned , after MQ7 its no more recommended.

So I think as MQ administrator is OK if I am not confirtable with it & let it go.

Yes, let it go. MQ v6 and its streaming pub/sub feature are no longer supported. MQ v7 pub/sub is now king.
