Hi all,

I have a use case where a JAVA program hosted in WAS(OMVS) subscribe/publish to a MQTT topic(MQTT server in Websphere MQ running in Windows machine).

As of my knowledge there are two methods to achieve this:

1. Using a simple java application that can subscribe/Publish to an MQTT topic.( By providing WMQ's ip address, port, topic name etc)

2. Integrating WAS with WMQ, using JNDI, MDB etc
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/prodconn_1.0.0/com.ibm.prodconn.doc/infocenter_homepage/mqwas_home.htm?cp=SSFKSJ_7.5.0%2F9

Could someone tell me the difference between these two methods, or advantages and disadvantages of one over the other.

You have pretty much described the differences.

Which one is "better" is entirely up to the needs of your application team and the environment.
