There is no issue with our setup.

Are you saying that there is no problem?

I merely posted as an example of where we have NOT seen expired messages hanging around on the queues.

Are you saying that the problem and the cause are exactly the same, namely that expired message remain in the queue longer than they did previously? Other than that, there are no symptoms or problems?

To be honest, without deliberately injecting some carefully crafted 'rogue' messages onto the queues I don't think that I'd see this problem at all.

Exactly and precisely, what problem (symptom) do you see?

The system was developed for MQ 7.0.1.4/WMB 7.0.0.4 and is now undergoing SAT for MQ 8.0.0.1/IIB 9.0.0.3. So far everything is working as expected.

So, no problem?

Color me confused.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

As stated earlier, the presence or absence of expired messages should have NO impact on your applications.

Fill a queue with expired messages. Try putting another message to the queue.

MQRC = 2053 (Q Full)

That's an impact to the putting app anyway.

Filling the queue with non-expired messages will result in the same CC/RC.

Perhaps garbage collection should take place whenever a queue is touched - at MQOPEN, MQGET, MQPUT, MQPUT1, MQCLOSE, MQINQ, MQSET.
