Forgive my ignorance

I read through the developer works overview on MQ light. Still not sure where this fits. I hear it support AMQP.

How does it fit in a MQ environment? writing an MQ application is pretty simple and quick as it is, why do we need a MQ light to make it easier?

Is the benefit in MQ light supporting AMQP? Also does that mean i can front end MQ light and accept AMQP messages and then convert it into MQ and use it in the existing environment?

Please guide me with some inputs. Thanks.

MQ Light doesn't require an administrator to configure and provision a server, as I understand it.

MQ Light also supports AMQP, and that is an advantage where you need to talk to AMQP clients or AMQP services.

And the developer experience is designed to be simpler than MQ, and more particularly quicker to get up and running with.

There are some good postings on IBM developer blogs and devworks and etc.

Hello,
MQ Light is available both as an on-premise component (using AMQP) or as a Bluemix Service (using either AMQP or JMS). MQ Light enables developers to build scalable, responsive applications without the usual MQ administration and configuration requirements.

As an application grows it will be able to migrate to use IBM MQ (as per the statement of direction in the announcement letter for IBM MQ V, IBM intends to deliver features into IBM MQ to allow applications that have been developed to the MQ Light API to be run on IBM MQ.

That would allow a developer to quickly get familiar with MQ Light, create an app, which could then be scaled as needed and eventually migrated over to a full MQ component.

Some useful links:

Hope this helps,
Valerie

I don't know much about AMQP but can an app developed using AMQP be
Deployed to mq without any coding changes?

That is the intent of the IBM announcement to provide the MQLight API to work on MQ (as I understand it)

AMQP is a protocol which can be used with Node.js
Please refer to these developerworks entries which may be helpful to you:
