Hi folks,

MQ version 7.5.0.3
Linux platform - Suse

Just wondering if anyone in this space have setup a Multi-Instance Qmgr with the FTE Agent that failover with the Qmgr?

Have not seen any post or any hit so far. Would be nice if someone can share.

cheers,

Hi zaldyman3,

I haven't done this myself however I believe the process is fairly straightforward and documented in the WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer Infocenter:

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv7/v7r5/topic/com.ibm.wmqfte.doc/multi_instance_qms.htm

And for reference, see here for the page on the agent.properties file for more information about the properties required to be set to support a multi-instance agent queue manager:

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv7/v7r5/topic/com.ibm.wmqfte.doc/properties.htm#properties__ha_props

I would suggest reviewing the documentation here and trying it out. I hope this helps!

Hi tomleend,

Appreciate the response.

What I'm after is MQFT process failover with the Multi-instance Qmgr that is sitting on the same server.

We have a multi-instance Qmgr which has remote agents connected to it that reconnects when it fail-over to the stand-by. It si working perfectly for us.

Now we have a need to have a Multi-instance and an FTE Agent running on the same box. MQ process failsover to the stanby but the MQFT process will not fail across with MQ.

In Windows this can be done via Windows clustering (i have not done it) as per the IBM step by step doco but the requirement is to run it in a Linux server.

Cheers,
Zaldy

I think you have two options here:
1. Use a Linux high-availability tool that can fail over multiple resources. This would be the Linux equivalent of MSCS which handles multiple resources.
2. Setup the FTE Agent to be started/stopped by the queue manager as a SERVICE object. Thus when the queue manager restarts on your backup node, it will start the FTE Agent on that node too.
