There are some great blog posts HERE and HERE that will answer your question in more detail than I could. I suggest you also look at T. Rob Wyatts blog pages, and the IBM Security Redbook.

And please, please, do some research before posting. Thank you.

EDIT: Moving this to the Clustering forum.

Thanks!!

yes I have done some research on it.

I know that gateway queue manager is used for Cluster workload balance and to pass the message into the cluster environment but not sure how we can gateway queue manage for security purpose

you'll have to get a lot more specific and define what you mean with security here. The gateway qmgr is mainly an MQ ROUTING tool.

A gateway (qmgr) can reside in a DMZ, and provide DMZ-like "security." Common gateway behavior might include: requiring authentication of the client, limiting/restricting further upstream client access to resources, and hiding (abstracting) the identities of the real resources.

What do you mean by "security?"

And be more specific by what you mean when you say "gateway qm". As Bruce's post shows, the term gateway is used for more than one type of Queue Manager.

Personally I reserve the term "Gateway Queue Manager" for a queue manager used to get MQ messages in and out of an MQ cluster to/from queue managers that are not in that MQ cluster. For a queue manager used to get messages to/from a business partner I like to use the term "Edge Queue Manager", because it sits at the edge of your internal network as a jump point into the DMZ and another network.

And yes, sometimes a queue manager can be both an Edge QM and a Gateway QM at the same time.
