Are there any tools which allow you to look at the various parts of a message including the headers and the detail similar to mqmispf on the mainframe for the NT platform? That tool lets us look at the message in hex and ebcdic. Also - do you have to install mqseries server on your workstation to be able to use mqseries explorer to look at local and remote queues and put messages on those queues or can you just install mqseries explorer? I have not had luck with the latter.

Thanks

There's a number of tools that do this, PQEDIT from Candle is one. Also you can get it incorporated in another product, like Message Management within the BMC Patrol MQ stuff. There's a shareware thing (MO71) that's available as a supportpac from the IBM web site, but I'm not too sure if you can use it to look at individual messages.
I'm afraid you have to install the whole MQ package on NT to get the explorer going, you can't install it individually.

RFHUTIL is useful for looking at messages and can display in HEX/ASCII/EBCDIC, it can also format XML and decode the MQ headers.

A very handy (and free) program that can be found in support pac IH03. Use RFHUTILC if you have MQ Client installed.

You might also want to look at MQJExplorer ...
